In 2010, the Northeast Association of 4WD Clubs submitted a proposal for an RTP grant to purchase a trailer that can be used as a mobile educational tool.
Each year, organizations can submit for grants through the Recreational Trails Program. The submissions are received through the NH Trails Bureau and are divided into motorized and non-motorized categories for review. The application process is very intense and requires each submission to dot all their i’s and cross all of their t’s! Once the deadline for submissions has expired, a panel within the Trails Bureau reviews each and every submission in detail to determine which ones will be awarded approval. The grant provides for 80% of the cost of the project being submitted and the organization submitting for the grant has to front the remaining 20%, but there are some provisions for doing so that minimize their cash-out-of-pocket. In NH the 2010 maximum project total amount that could be applied for was $25,000. Specific details can be reviewed via the links above.
In March 2010, we received confirmation from the Trails Bureau that our submission was approved! This was our first submission for an RTP Grant! Part of the application process required us to submit quotes for trailers we were interested in as well as any corresponding costs, in our case that included the graphics we would seek to have applied to the trailer to identify it’s purpose. Once the application was approved we were able to move forward with purchasing the trailer from Airport Trailer Sales and immediately delivered it for the graphics application at Add-A-Sign.
The trailer will make it’s first event appearance at the Great American Jeep Rally on October 3rd. The trailer has been furnished with various educational pamphlets and materials concerning several forms of outdoor recreation for visitors to peruse and take with them. Our goal is to have a traveling library, so to speak, to educate both recreational users and the general public! For more information about our trailer or to schedule it’s appearance at your event, please contact us!
